GEOList
GEOList is a members-only curated listserv for you to post your burning questions, receive relevant feedback or share an insight with your peers in the GEO community.
Members rank GEOList as one of the most valuable resources and benefits of the GEO community.
Use GEOList to connect with your peers and crowdsource the practical examples or theoretical advice you need. If you’re wrestling with challenges or questions on the job, post to GEOList to hear how others in the GEO community are tackling challenges similar to yours. You can also review archived conversations through our Member Dashboard.
Have burning questions? Want to get started today? You can submit questions right now through the Member Dashboard!
We review and send out the questions, but we cannot edit or adjust them before distributing to the listserv. Use a succinct and clear subject line in your email that gives an idea of its contents. (Ex: Knowledge Sharing Strategies; Trustee Driven Funds). If your subject line is vague (Ex: Please Post; A question), we will ask you to resend your question.
GEOList is a member benefit - please do not post our summaries to other websites.
What kinds of questions am I allowed to post on GEOList?
- If your post asks peers to respond to a survey related to philanthropy or your work, we will send it.
- If you are looking for consultants, we ask that you first check out the National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers’ online directory. GEO partnered with NNCG to provide the GEO community access to this directory. GEO does not endorse any consultants on this list. We also ask that you peruse through the GEOList Archives via the Resource Library to search through our older summaries about consultants.
- We do not post press releases or job announcements to the listserv. To share job openings or other announcements, please post them to our LinkedIn group! Feel free to contact Nichole Hoeflich with any questions about our LinkedIn group at hoeflich@geofunders.org.
My email bounced, what should I do?
If the email bounces, you may not be subscribed to GEOList with the email address you are using to send the message. Please contact Bo Dorsey at dorsey@geofunders.org to get set up.
What happens after I submit a question?
Great question! GEOList is a moderated listserv and is a manual process. To avoid overwhelming member inboxes, we spread questions out. Once you submit a question, it is added to our queue, where it is reviewed. If the queue is lengthy, there will be a lag from when you submitted a question to when it is distributed to the listserv. We do not send questions on Fridays.
After the question is released to GEOList, we collect member responses over the course of two weeks and compile them in our summary format. Summaries are then sent to the listserv and uploaded to our Archives. Questions with more than two substantive responses will be distributed to the listserv; otherwise, we will post them in the Resource Library.
How do I respond to a question?
Please hit “reply all” when responding to a GEOList email – that way, we will get your response and the original poster will as well. By sending us your response, you give us permission to include it in the summary that goes out to the listserv and is posted in our members-only archive. If your post does not go to the GEOList email address, it will not be included in the summary.
What platform do you use?
We use the Groups service powered by Sympa2.
How do I access archived GEOList summaries?
To access our regularly updated archives of GEOList Summaries, dating back to 2007, keep on scrolling or check out our Member Dashboard! Our GEOList Archives is only accessible to GEO members.
