As part of our racial equity learning journey, we’re looking to survey our staff to get an understanding of their awareness & perceptions of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion and ideas for where we should go next in terms of centering racial equity in how we operate as an organization and in how we do grantmaking (strategies, policies and practices). We’ve got lots of good guides and resources, like the one put out by GEO. Right now, what would be most helpful is actual survey instruments (e.g., survey questions, survey framing, etc) that you’ve used at your philanthropic organization? Good Morning, I recently searched the GEOlist archives for an answer to my question, however, it seems like I am the first to inquire about this specific subject matter. My question is: The John R. Oishei Foundation, located in Buffalo, NY will embark on a strategic planning process in 2022 and to further advance our racial equity initiative, we are looking for a consultant with DEI+J experience. For those who have recently worked with a strategic planning consultant specializing in racial equity or partnered with a DEI+J facilitator to compliment the learning process, could you please share your experience and the firms/individuals you’ve engaged to guide your organization’s decision-making? Thank you. I think this is a great question to hear more from the member base on how they are approaching strategic planning with a racial equity lens. Do you offer either (a) planning grants to applicants before an intensive proposal process, and/or (b) declined applicants grants or honoraria for people/nonprofits who spent time applying to your foundation and then were declined?

Hello Colleagues, We are in the process of evaluating our grant thresholds for what our President/CEO and program staff can approve and what grant requests go before our grants committee. Can you please share what amounts (grants under a certain dollar amount) you are able to approve through staff? Looking forward to learning from you!

Have you worked with and/or know of sector consultants that advise on racial equity in investment policies? I’m looking to learn about those with experience advising and facilitating discussion for funders, who have knowledge of the landscape of investment management firms.
