We are in the midst of some annual planning and are curious if any funders have commissioned or conducted a nonprofit report card/state of the sector analysis for their local community, state, or region.

How you are tracking your time? Do you use time tracking software? Do you conduct an annual payroll time study? If so, for what period of time and how often? What’s your methodology?

What is the risk position should intermediaries be taking in their respective ecosystems? How far out front on issues of equity, inclusion, and social justice should they be? What are best practices in staying in authentic integrity with the field/movement when they may be playing a resourcing role? Should intermediaries lead the way in diffusing the power dynamics of philanthropy through democratizing decision making and more?

I’d love to hear if you use measures to determine a program officer’s portfolio and therefore a large part of their job description? In the fundraising world they often use percentages to help measure performance. Is there any such guiding principle equivalent or comparable for program officers?

We are seeking a job description for a Community Engagement Specialist.

The Packard Foundation is currently considering the development of a rapid response capacity building funding mechanism, recognizing that many of our grantees, especially those working on national advocacy, are experiencing new and immediate capacity building needs in the current moment. We are hoping to learn from other funders who may be implementing or considering something similar – specifically on capacity building for leaders, organizations, and networks (not programmatic rapid response). We are aware of and in contact with the Haas Jr Fund and Ford on their efforts. Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom you can share.

I’d be interested to learn if there are foundations (or programs within foundations) with formal or informal protocol, guidelines, or principles for grant monitoring (beyond the “usual” reporting forms) for program officers, either for project or more flexible funding.
