GEOList Summary: Supporting Leadership Development/Executive Education
The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is interested in learning if and how other foundations provide support for leadership development and/or executive education for individuals employed by their grantee organizations. There are several possible approaches to supporting leadership development and executive education, from building leadership or executive training into grants budgets, to competitively awarding funding for leadership training, or sponsoring grantees’ tuition to training programs identified by either the grantee or the foundation. For those foundations that do provide support for leadership development or executive education, we would be interested to know: 1) How has your foundation supported leadership development or executive education? That is, what methods, process and/or criteria does your foundation use to support it? 2) What have been the challenges (if any) to supporting leadership development or executive education? 3) Have your grantees found the support useful? What process do you use to assess the effectiveness of the foundation’s support for leadership development or executive education?
