GEOList Summary: Staff Policies for Entry-Level Positions
I'm curious to know if any of you has a policy for staffing entry level positions with young people right out of college, with an eye toward fairly quick turnover? Durfee is a small foundation. We have deliberately staffed the position of office manager/ executive assistant as a two-year post, designed for a young person who wants to pursue a career in public service, but who may not yet have determined the path -- law school, business school, public policy, etc. Our hope is that the foundation can provide the young employee a bird's eye view of the sector, while also providing the foundation with the skills of an ambitious, emerging professional who wants to cover a lot of ground in a relatively short span of time. We are currently looking back on the past decade of this staffing strategy -- which has been conceived as a sort of professional development opportunity for young people just entering the nonprofit sector. I'd be grateful to compare notes with others who might have a similar policy.
