GEOList Summary: Query on Advisory Panel
The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation (ZSR) is currently in the process of rethinking the role of its longstanding Advisory Panel and is interested in learning how other foundations are using advisory groups, panels, or forums. We are especially interested in the perspectives of foundations that are focused regionally or at the state level, like ZSR. Generally, we envision the Advisory Panel functioning as a diverse cadre of leaders from across the state that act as a sounding board for Foundation staff; serve as ambassadors for the Foundation in communities across the state; and bring a wide range of perspectives and ideas to the Foundation. The ZSR Advisory Panel plays no direct role grantmaking. 1. Does your foundation have an advisory group that is not directly involved in the review or approval of grants? 2. If not, have you ever had such a group? If you discontinued the group, why did you do so? 3. If you do have an advisory group, how does it contribute to your foundation's work? How is it organized? Do you have any suggestions to help ZSR maximize the benefits of the group for both members of the group and the Foundation?
