GEOList Summary: Place-Based Strategies
The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation is interested in learning about how other foundations develop and operate a place-based strategy. In our case, we are an international Foundation located in Baltimore, Maryland and make grants valued at over $20M annually in Baltimore City (out of a total grantmaking budget of around $100M annually). All grants are aligned with our current priorities, but we think that we could have a greater impact with a clearer strategy. We are particularly interested in guiding principles that you use when executing these strategies. We would also like to hear how strategies were developed, if relevant, and whether you had to change internal mechanics to operationalize the strategy. We are looking to define our “north star” as a way to ground us in this work.
