GEOList Summary: Funding Schools/Universities without 501(c)(3) Affiliates
Has anybody funded schools/universities (or other institutions) that do not have 501(c)3 affiliates? One of our member foundations is looking to expand their list of grantees, but is running into schools without an affiliate to transfer the funds. They are especially interested in finding out how other funders conduct due diligence when many of the public schools/colleges do not have a signed audit (some states do not break down financial statements for each entity it covers). Any information on practices/resources you could share concerning funding a unit of government, legal concerns and IRS guidelines would be greatly appreciated.
