We are interested in knowing how other Foundations approach endowments. Specifically, for those Foundations that make endowments, what decision process do you use to determine what should be a multi-year grant versus an endowment? Are there any threshold requirements that you have established that limit the grantees eligible to receive an endowment (e.g. only Universities?) Finally, for any Foundations with a decent track record making endowments, what benefits and risks do you see with this practice?
