What and who: using intentional communication to create a conference vision

  • By Author Test, September 12, 2022

As a child, my dad taught me that everything starts with a strong foundation. Of course, he applied this advice in the literal sense, but also figuratively – tasks big and small, from building camp-side fires to preparing for presentations must start with clear intention, advice I take with me as the communications specialist here at GEO.

Intention is a large part of conference communications, but never more so than during this year. GEO conferences have long inspired transformational changes in philanthropic culture and practice, buoyed by the belief that the best learning happens is collective, which in turn leads to stronger ideas and shifts in how grantmakers approach broader advances in sector practice. But after almost 3 years of social distancing and a cornucopia of virtual gatherings, as a team we knew intention would matter for how we communicated about GEO’s 2022 National Conference.
